Flip File’s journey started more than 40 years ago when it was handcrafted for the first time in Cape Town, South Africa.
It all began with a company called ‘ Slide Easy’, that manufactured single plastic sleeves which dominated the market due to its uniqueness. The owner of the company was also an enthusiastic and doting father. Whilst reading to and feeding his youngest child (with the expected mess that goes with it) he had a lightbulb moment…
‘what if we bound these plastic sleeves and made a book’? …..and out of that FLIP FILE was born:
Plastic was not recycled in the late 70’s, which led to a build-up of reject filing sleeves in the Slide Easy factory. These rejects, instead of being discarded, were reworked into Flip Files. Once a substitute for expensive and inflexible PVC display books, Flip Files became recognised as an innovative game changer.
Soon, Flip File would make its way into almost every home, accompanying children on their journey through school and the working world. Its appeal was in its foundation of versatility and resilience that was able to safeguard everything that was considered precious.
